About this trip

This is the ride that bikers dream about. Our 7N/8D Ladakh Bike Expedition puts you on a Royal Enfield Himalayan for a guided loop through some of the highest motorable roads on earth, with a road captain, mechanic and backup vehicle behind you all the way.

After two days of acclimatisation in Leh, you ride over Khardung La to the sand dunes of Nubra Valley, follow the Shyok river to the impossibly blue Pangong Lake, and return over Chang La. A final loop to Lamayuru’s “Moonland” and the monasteries of Thiksey and Hemis rounds off the journey.

These are fixed departures with small groups and limited seats, planned for the best riding window of May to September.

Itinerary

Fly into Leh (11,500 ft), where our team meets you at the airport. Check in and rest completely for the day to acclimatise — drink plenty of water and avoid exertion. In the evening, meet your road captain and fellow riders over a welcome dinner and briefing.

After breakfast, collect your Royal Enfield and take an easy acclimatisation ride: Hall of Fame war museum, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Magnetic Hill and the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar at Sangam. Evening at Shanti Stupa for sunset over Leh.
Leh (1N) Self-ride with road captain Breakfast · Dinner
Ride about 120 km (5–6 hours) up to Khardung La, one of the world’s highest motorable passes, before descending into Nubra. Visit Diskit Monastery with its giant Maitreya Buddha, then ride to the Hunder sand dunes for a double-humped Bactrian camel ride at sunset.

The most thrilling day: roughly 160 km (7 hours) along the Shyok river route through Agham and Durbuk, with water crossings and rugged stretches. Arrive at Pangong Lake by afternoon and watch its colours shift from turquoise to deep blue. Overnight in lakeside camps.

Catch the sunrise over Pangong, then ride 150 km (5–6 hours) back to Leh over Chang La (17,590 ft). Stop at Thiksey Monastery, which looks like a mini Potala Palace, and the Shey Palace on the way. Evening free in Leh market.

Ride west along the Indus on the Srinagar highway, about 125 km each way, to Lamayuru, one of Ladakh’s oldest monasteries, set among the lunar landscapes of Moonland. Stop at Alchi’s 1,000-year-old murals and the Likir Monastery before returning to Leh.

A shorter ride to Hemis, the largest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh. This day also serves as a buffer for any weather or road delays. Hand back your bike in the afternoon, shop for pashmina and apricots, and celebrate at the farewell dinner.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need prior riding experience?
Yes. You should be comfortable riding a 350cc+ motorcycle on highways and have a valid driving licence with motorcycle endorsement. Mountain experience helps but is not required.
How do you handle altitude sickness?
The itinerary includes two acclimatisation days in Leh and a buffer day. Our backup vehicle carries oxygen and first aid, and the road captain is trained to spot symptoms early.
Can I ride as a pillion?
Yes. A pillion rider pays the extra-adult rate shown and shares the bike with a rider. Pillions can also switch to the backup vehicle whenever they want.
Can I bring my own bike?
Yes, riders can bring their own motorcycle for a reduced fee. Note that bikes registered outside Ladakh need to follow the local rules; our team will guide you.
What are the departure dates?
